Code of Conduct

The Yavneh Minyan Board, guided by Rabbi Sokol, has codified the following statement to provide for proper decorum and respectful dialogue in shul. We ask members and guests to adhere to these standards in order to ensure a harmonious environment at the Minyan. Thank you for your cooperation.

 

Yavneh Minyan of Flatbush Code of Conduct

"And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them".

 (שמות כה:ח) וְעָשׂוּ לִי מִקְדָּשׁ וְשָׁכַנְתִּי בְּתוֹכָם

It is the responsibility of members and guests of the קהילה (congregation) to ensure that the מנין/Minyan is aמקדשׁ מעט  (mini Temple) in all its pursuits and dealings. Members should be guided by the pursuit of קדושׁה  (holiness) and the highest moral standards in promoting the mission of the מנין /Minyan. Members and guests must adhere to the following principles:

Expectations

* Preserve the decorum and dignity of the תפילה (prayers)

* Serve as role models

* Act as advocates and positive spokespersons for the synagogue

Accountability

* Uphold Jewish values such as fairness, דרך ארץ (ethics and respect), mutual respect, sensitivity and openness

* Act with personal honesty and integrity

* Preserve the dignity of theמנין /Minyan, its members and those who serve it

* Support the daily work of theקהילה  (congregation) and its leadership

* Maintain a safe and welcoming environment, and promote shalom rather than divisiveness

* Never interrupt the תפילה (prayers)

Communication and Confidentiality

* Observe הלכות לשן הרע  (laws of derogatory speech)

* Respect the privacy of others

* Communicate openly and truthfully

* Express constructively, and address to the appropriate party, any discussions of policy, positions, programs or individuals

* Ensure that disagreement relate only to principles and priorities, not personalities Respect for Others

* Ensure that everyone involved in the מנין/Minyan is treated withכבוד  (respect)

* Enable those who are part of theמנין /Minyan to reach their highest potential

* Teach that all are created צלם אלקים  (in the image of God)

* Remember and remind others that the goal is unity, not uniformity

* Ensure that boundaries, prerogatives and expertise are respected

The privileges and benefits bestowed upon members are a blessing, creating the opportunity for עבודת השם, תלמוד תורה וגמילות חסדים  (serving G-d, acts of kindness and learning torah) and participation in a vibrant and mutually supportive Jewish community.
